Michelle De Grandmont (Ottawa)

Michelle De Grandmont - Foot Care Nurse Educator

Michelle De Grandmont is a former graduate of Foot Canada Training's Foot Care Nurse course. Currently, she is a clinical educator with a license to teach Foot Canada Training's curriculum for clinical courses and advanced skills workshops. Michelle previously developed the innovative and highly successful advanced diabetic foot care program at Algonquin College and was the instructor for this program up until last year. She is a bilingual registered advanced diabetic Foot Care Nurse with over 15 years of experience in the health care sector, specializing in gerontology, acute care medicine, diabetes and holistic healing modalities. Her company, Soft Soles, provides foot care nursing services in the Ottawa area and supports the employment, mentorship, and training of nurses. She is a frequent best practice speaker. Michelle is a committed member of the Canadian Association of Foot Care Nurses (CAFCN), for which she is the Ontario Advisor and secretary. She has also worked on both the CAFCN's National Competencies for Advanced Nursing Foot Care in Canada, published in 2017, as well as the CAFCN's Education Standards, which is a continued project.

Philina Sky (Thunder Bay, Dryden, Kenora) 

Philina Sky - Foot Care Nurse Educator

Philina Sky is the owner and operator of "Minowaywin Mishkikii Qwe" which means,"'a nurse helper that treats you well', inspired by the work of her mother and mother-in-law, who have journeyed on to the spirit world. Minowaywin Mishkikii Qwe Nursing Services & Consulting is located on Migisi Sahgaigan (Eagle Lake) First Nation and currently provides nursing services, training education and consulting in infection control, home care, diabetes prevention and management and foot care within Northwestern Ontario. Understanding the importance of patient safety and “wise” practices in her work, Philina is a Foot Care Nurse Educator, certified Diabetes Educator and Ontario Community Support Association Personal Support Worker Instructor.  She has successfully completed the Novice Infection Prevention and Control Canada 400+ hours course. In addition, to being a dedicated educator for home and community care on numerous chronic disease health workshops, she was instrumental as the Lead Curriculum Developer and Instructor in Canada’s first Anishinaabe “Community Diabetes Support Worker” program, through the Seven Generations Education Institute in 2014. Philina endeavours to contribute to education that is geared to the reality of the north, which has led her teaching the Onsite Foot Care Nurse Clinical course using Foot Canada Training's curriculum in Thunder Bay, Dryden and Kenora. Arlene's Healthy Heels (Windsor)

Arlene Vandoorn - Foot Care Nurse Educator

Arlene Van Doorn is a registered nurse and foot care educator. She has worked at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Windsor, Ontario with experience in gerontology, medical surgical, orthopedics, emergency, and outpatients’ day surgery for 36 years. In August of 2016, she accepted an early retirement package and re-focused on her business and teaching. With encouragement from family, friends and other health care professionals, she founded Healthy Heels and More Inc.  She has several hundred clients at present and continues to grow. Arlene’s goal is to teach other nurses on becoming the “best foot nurses" imaginable. using clinical teaching and hands on experience.  Arlene believes in smaller groups for teaching, so the emphasis can be on the students learning in a relaxed, comfortable environment. At Healthy Heels their motto is “One step closer to a Healthier You”.
