Course Description and Application

The Online Foot Care Nurse Theory course (FCN Theory) is taught and administered by Foot Canada Training.

The FCN Theory course teaches a theoretical foundation to nurses preparing to take the Onsite Foot Care Nurse Clinical course (FCN Clinical), which provides in-person clinical skills development and mentorship. Together, both courses are designed to prepare participants to function as a Foot Care Nurse within a health care team.

This course is designed for nurses (RN’s, NP’s, RPN’s & LPN’s) new to foot care and for experienced Foot Care Nurses who wish to update their knowledge and skills. The course follows a comprehensive, advanced and diabetic nursing foot care curriculum. This curriculum is based on current best practice guidelines and evidence-based practice, including the Canadian Association of Foot Care Nurses’ National Competencies for Advanced Nursing Foot Care in Canada (2017). Students are expected to complete online assignments and view pre-recorded webinars from their work/home computer. A 75% course average or higher is required to successfully complete FCN Theory.

  • Tuition = $1,110 + tax
  • Experienced Foot Care Nurse/Returning Student Tuition = $250.00 + tax
Accepted methods of payment are e-transfer, credit card and money order. Direct deposit and cheque payment options may be available if tuition is being paid by an employer or sponsoring organization. Details on how to proceed with payment will be provided in your course acceptance email. Please wait to receive your acceptance email prior to sending any funds.

Self-Assessments for Prospective Students

Prospective students are encouraged to complete the following self-assessments: Exercise #1: Nursing Foot Care Knowledge and Skill & Exercise #2: Preparedness for Learning. Please do not submit your results, these are provided as a tool for self-reflection only.

Tuition for the FCN Theory course is separate from tuition for your FCN Clinical training and you will need to organize your own FCN Clinical training. Registration to the FCN Theory course does not obligate the student to complete FCN Clinical training and is a great way to learn and refresh knowledge on current nursing foot care theory and best practice guidelines. Students should note however that the FCN Theory course does not provide any practical hands-on training in foot care, therefore nurses are not yet qualified to provide foot care to clients after completing the FCN Theory course. To practice as a Foot Care Nurse, nurses must ensure they have successfully completed both theoretical and clinical/mentorship training, such as Foot Canada Training’s FCN Theory and FCN Clinical courses, or any other equivalent.
